The Napa Silverados celebrated their very first game ever last night. As the unofficial official photographer of our new professional baseball team, I was there to capture the event.
While I've played baseball a lot, I've never actually photographed a professional game before. I didn't know where I could be, what the unwritten rules are, what equipment I'd need, etc. I ended up just shooting wherever I wanted (often including the opposing team's dugout) and just figured it out as the night went along. I used my Nikon D500 and D850 cameras with the 300 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, and 24-70 f/2.8 lenses. The 300mm on the D500 is a fantastic sports combo -- gets me close, focuses fast, and is super sharp.
In addition to the game, I had to get portraits of all the players as well as the whole team. I had to set up lights and get all the shots done in about ten minutes. `
